We are located in the heart of one of South Africa’s most prized and iconic natural locations. You cannot inhabit and take pleasure in this land without playing an active role in preserving it.
Through responsible tourism, we protect and conserve – from the natural significance of a termite hill to the plight of the majestic white and black rhinos. We use our position as a luxury lodge to educate and instill the importance of conservation in our guests, as well as in the Community.
In the last decade 9,396 rhinos have been lost to poaching (source, savetherhino.org). Raising awareness is no longer enough – we are taking action. There are about 700 rangers that protect the entirety of the Kruger National Park. That is only 1 ranger for every 200km.
We have a dedicated anti-poaching unit. Mdluli Conservation and Anti-Poaching (MC&AP) is an active 24/7 initiative in partnership with SANParks and Kruger National Park.
In partnership with Davidé Bomben, Conservation Risk Initiative PBO Director, Noctuam Poaching Prevention Academy Trainer, and Director of the T.R.U.S.T. Program (Tactical Rangers Unit Specialised Training), we aim to train and equip rangers within the Mdluli Community, private security, and the Kruger National Park field rangers and anti-poaching units in the fight against poaching.
Our efforts continue to have a large impact in the reduction of snare poaching on the Mdluli Reserve and in the Park. Some of the Environmental Monitors appointed by SANParks are from the Mdluli Community, and play a key role in patrolling along the south-western boundary of the Park.
